At first, the ski resort was called skigebiet Saalbach Hinterglemm, but Leogang and Fieberbrunn are the latest additions. This is because all 4 areas are connected by lifts, and together they form one of the largest ski areas in the country.

Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn has 270 kilometers (168 miles) of ski slopes, for beginners, families, and experts. And there are 70 modern ski lifts and cable cars.

140 kilometers of those slopes are blue (easy, 87 miles), 112 kilometers red (intermediate, 70 miles), and 18 kilometers black (difficult, 11 miles). So it has different kinds of slopes to offer for everyone!

Perfect if you want to go skiing in Austria with a big group of friends or family, for example.

Where is Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberunn?

Okay, we told you by now you can find this ski area in Austria, but where in Austria exactly?

Saalbach and Hinterglemm are located in the same valley, southwest of Salzburg. It’s about a 1.5 hours drive from Salzburg.

From Munich and Innsbruck, it takes about 2.5 hours by car to get to Saalbach-Hinterglemm.

Leogang is located just on the other side of the mountain, also in the province of Salzburg. Fieberbrunn is part of the province of Tyrol.

Good to know: if you miss the last lift back from Fieberbrunn you have to take a taxi back to Saalbach-Hinterglemm, which takes about 50 minutes.

When to go to Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn?

The general ski season in Saalbach Hinterglemm is from the beginning of December till mid-April. Though this can vary based on external conditions like the weather.

Especially since the ski area isn’t the highest ski resort in Austria, it lies between 830 meters and 2096 meters (2723-6876 feet), it’s vulnerable during warm winters.

And because of this, the snow conditions at the beginning and at the end of the season can vary. We all want to ski on fresh snow on a cold day with blue skies and not on those slushy slopes, right?

January is the best time to ski in Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, looking at the quality and quantity of snow on the mountains.

Good to know: when you get an 8+ days ski pass, a photo is required. There’s a deposit of €2 per pass, which you can back when you hand in the pass again.

And your ski pass is valid from 15:00 (3 PM) of the prior day!

Hinterglemm feels a bit more exclusive, but still has a lot to offer! Especially après ski-wise. You can find the famous Goaßstall in Hinterglemm.

Stay in Fieberbrunn if you want quick access to the best free-ride terrain and off-piste possibilities. And Leogang is quieter compared to Hinterglemm and Saalbach, though also has great accommodation close to one of the two cable cars going up the mountain.

  1. Ski ‘The Challenge’

The Challenge‘ is the largest ski circuit in the Alps. So if you like a challenge, why not ski ‘The Challenge’?

It’s a route of 65 kilometers (40 miles) of slopes, and 32 ski lifts, and takes about 7 hours. Though then you need to postpone long breaks, photo stops, sunbathing, and dreamy mountain moments to another day.

As you need every moment of those 7 hours to finish this ski marathon. So better start early! Challenge accepted?

60% of those slopes are blue, 35% are red, and 5% are black.

You will pass all four villages, so it doesn’t matter in which village you start!

  1. Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps

The Baumzipfelweg, also called ‘Tree Top Trail’ (the highest one in Europe), is a hiking route located at the end of the valley of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. And this route brings you to the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps!

Hike through an amazing winter wonderland and enjoy the views on the way. The whole route is about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) long and after a walk of 2 kilometers (1.3 miles) through meadows and forest you will arrive at the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps.

Once you arrived, you will probably see why this bridge got its nickname. From the bridge, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the valley and the surrounding mountains.

  1. Tobogganing in the Skicircus

Tobogganing (or rodeln) is a super fun thing to do for young and old! In the Skicircus, you can find multiple toboggan runs, and each one is unique in its own way.

Especially unique when you go down the mountain on a toboggan at night on an illuminated run. The fresh mountain air and the dark sky full of stars make the trip down the mountain special.

One of the toboggan runs is on the Reiterkogel, both during the day and at night. Rent a toboggan and make your way up with the ski lift.

Another fun toboggan run is on the Spielbergerhaus. Especially since you don’t ascent the mountain by ski lift, but with a snowcat shuttle! You do need to make a reservation to join.

Last but not least, in Leogang you can also go tobogganing! One toboggan run is accessible during the day and the other one during the evening. The starting point of both runs can be found at the middle station of the Asitzbahn!

Good to know: be careful when tobogganing! As often, accidents happen.

  1. Timok’s Alpine Coaster

The Timok’s Alpine Coaster in Fieberbrunn is open all year round! On this coaster, you don’t toboggan through the snow on a wooden sled, but over a track of rails in a plastic sled! And it’s super fun. Plus, also super safe!

The track has a length of 1,160 meters (3805 feet) and takes about 7 minutes. You can sit in the sled with two people, but also by yourselves.

And if you don’t want to go too fast, it’s possible to adjust the speed while going down! And best of all, it’s totally free with a valid ski pass!

  1. Enjoy Food at KrallerAlm

There are many amazing ski huts and restaurants in the whole ski area! One definitely to visit is KrallerAlm in Leogang. The restaurant opened in 1976 and is a popular restaurant in Leogang to go to.

The decor of KrallerAlm is based on spinning and weaving themes. So you can still find old equipment like historic spinning wheels, old flat-irons, and a wool combing machine for example. It’s a unique place, for sure.

A unique and cozy place that serves delicious food too! Try one of their pizzas or make a fondue reservation. And if you go on a Wednesday, you might see the Red Devils hut jumping at the restaurant.

From the same owners, you can also enjoy food on the top of the mountain at Alte Schmiede.

  1. Go Ice Skating in Hinterglemm

Another great winter activity is ice skating! In Hinterglemm you can find an ice rink on the edge of the village, near the main road.

Bauer’s Schi-Alm Saalbach

The top après ski Saalbach spot is the Bauer’s Schi-Alm! And we get why, as here you can go crazy and party as much as you want at one of their four bars: The Kulimuuh-Bar, Wurst-Himmel, Bauer’s Inferno, and der Lichtung. All at the same spot!

So there’s always something going on at the Bauer’s Schi-Alm, which is open daily till midnight. And if you get hungry, you can also eat here!

Schwips Après Ski Bar

Totally different from the Bauer’s Schi-Alm, as the Schwips Après Ski Bar is quite small and cozy, but lots of fun! During the day and with sunny weather, you can also find many people outside the Schwips Bar. Right in the center of Saalbach.

Their motto in winter is ‘Party on Schwips’, meaning ‘party while tipsy’! And you definitely can with the many schnapps they are offering!

Hinterhag Alm

Already in Saalbach since 1976, the Hinterhag Alm is a great place to go to if you like après ski and live music. As every day from 16:00 (4 pm) the live music starts!

Enter the authentic wooden hut and have fun on one of their two floors.

The Hintergah Alm is located directly on the Kohlmais valley run, just 2 minutes away from the village center of Saalbach. It’s a short walk or ski trip down the mountain.

Goaßstall Hinterglemm

If you love après ski, you can’t leave Saalbach-Hinterglemm without going to the Goaßstall! They call themselves THE meeting place in the whole Skicircus and the biggest après ski venue in all of Austria. And we can confirm, it’s an amazing après ski spot in Hinterglemm.

It used to be a barn, but since 1994 parties are held where once pics, chickens, cows, and of course goats were walking around. Hence the name! The barn is 300 years old and has all the ingredients an après ski bar should have.

You can find the Goaßstall directly on the 32a slope, but from far away you will hear the music from the speaker! It’s usually packed at the Goaßstall, so be prepared.

Schwarzacher Hinterglemm

A restaurant, lounge, après ski bar, and event location in one! In the afternoon, the après ski in the Schwarzacher is always a big party with a good atmosphere.

You can find the Steinadler Panorama Bar at the middle station of the Asitzbahn cable car. The bar isn’t open until late, so afterward you can either ski or snowboard down or take the cable car down.

AsitzBräu

A brewery on the slopes! We don’t need to say more, right?! Or well, cheers!

AsitzBräu is located at the top of the mountain, directly at the Asitzbahn and Steinbergbahn. So if you drank a little too much, you don’t have to worry, as you can just take the cable cars down to Leogang!

There’s also great food at the AsitzBräu! While we are vegetarian ourselves and don’t eat meat, we heard their roasted chicken is the best.

Apres Ski Fieberbrunn

S4 Alm Fieberbrunn

Ending the day in Fieberbrunn?! Then the après ski bar S4 Alm is the place to be! Great beats, live music, cool events, delicious shots, and a sunny terrace, what else do you need?

The party continues until late at night and when you are hungry you can get a delicious pizza here too.

The S4 Alm is located at the valley station of the Doischberg cable car. So you don’t need to go down the mountain anymore after a few drinks!

Lärchfilzhochalm Fieberbrunn

Do you want to have a drink in the mountains? At the Lärchfilzhochalm there are relaxing chairs, perfect if it’s sunny outside, and you want to enjoy a drink and the amazing view!

No big parties here, but it’s a great place to chill and rest after some skiing and snowboarding.
