Gay Hostel London: St Christopher’s Inn

London is a fantastic city. There’s so much to see and do: it’s possible to keep exploring for weeks. Though, London isn’t the cheapest city to visit. Therefore finding the perfect accommodation in your budget, one that’s centrally located and one that’s fun might be tricky. And it would be even more perfect if it’s a gay hostel in London! We found the perfect place to stay at St Christopher’s Inn Village – London Bridge. Not only does the hostel welcome LGBTQ+ travellers with open arms, but it also offers a very unique way of sleeping: in a capsule!

Capsule Hostel London

Capsule hostels and hotels are well known in Asia, especially in Japan. St Christopher’s Inn Village is the first hostel in the UK to offer this unique way of sleeping. The hostel has 26 pods. Every pod has a curtain, perfect for your privacy, and cool colourful lighting that you can control yourselves. The pods seem small, but there’s enough space to sit straight up and change your clothes, for example. We could even fit easily with the two of us in one pod. We absolutely love the combination of the fun of staying hostel, easily meeting others, but having the privacy of our own pod. The pod is fully equipped with outlets and USB ports to charge all your gadgets. Don’t forget to bring an adapter (for a three-pin plug) if you aren’t from the United Kingdom! There’s a ventilation system in every pod too.

London Party Hostel

St Christopher’s Inn has been voted as one of the best party hostels of the world. The hostel chain has hostels all around Europe. St Christopher’s Inn is the Beds and Bars brand of backpacker hostels.  It’s the perfect hostel to stay at if you want to meet people and have a drink and dance!

London Backpackers Hostel

Don’t confuse St Christopher’s Inn Village with St Christopher’s at the Inn, which is located on the same road! The entrance of St Christopher’s Inn Village is lovely. There’s space to sit, there’s filtered water and a traditional telephone box (this one is used as a book exchange) at the reception area. The reception is open 24-hours. We are warmly welcomed with by the staff. At the reception, you can get information about all the activities organised by the hostel, such as free walking tours, pub-crawls, karaoke nights and beer pong events. As St Christopher’s Inn is a party hostel with great prices for the rooms, it’s popular amongst backpackers!

Gay Hostel London

The St Christopher Inn hostels aren’t officially gay hostels, but they are very LGBT-welcoming and inclusive. Also: they have RAINBOW LIGHTS in all the pods!! Another thing that stands out immediately is the gender-neutral bathrooms in St Christopher Inn Village. It’s the little details that show the effort! We also noticed in London: gaybourhoods or gay-hostels aren’t a necessity anymore: you’re welcome everywhere.

The (Capsule) Rooms

To get to the rooms there’s a secure card-system. Besides the capsule room, the hostel offers many other rooms: private (doubles or dorms) and mixed dorms (from 4 to 22 people). Over 400 people can stay at the hostel, so the hostel is huge! All rooms have lockers, but make sure to bring your own padlock.

We absolutely love the room with the capsule beds, so if you like a bit more privacy without booking a private room, we highly staying in that room. The capsule room has a bathroom with multiple showers and toilets.  Something we absolutely loved: the hot showers! We rarely have hot showers when we stay in hostels. The bathroom is also equipped with hair dryers (so fancy). There’s a little corner in the room with a table and benches, perfect to do some work or book your next trip. Do you have a neighbour that snores? No need to worry, as you can get free earplugs at the reception.

Breakfast

When booking directly at the website of St Christopher’s Inn, breakfast is included in your stay. If your book through Booking.com, it’s £4 per person, per day. Breakfast surprised us in a good way. It’s a continental breakfast buffet with a choice of ham, cheese, yoghurt, milk, cereals, toast, chocolate spread, peanut butter and coffee and tea. We are used to only toast and jam when staying at hostels, so we loved this continental breakfast buffet that offers more.

Central Hostel in London

The location of St Christopher’s Inn Village is absolutely perfect. The hostel is close to the London Bridge and the famous Tower Bridge. The London Eye and Big Ben are also within walking distance, though a bit further away. Just around the corner, you can find the oldest market of London, Borough Market. The tube is just a couple of minutes away and the bus stops right in front of the hostel. The location is perfect!

Common Areas

For the many people that can stay at the hostel we expected more common areas. Though, there’s a rooftop terrace and a chill room with some kitchen needs as a microwave. Don’t expect to do lots of cooking, as there isn’t much equipment. Of course you can also head to the bar!

The Belushi’s London Bridge Bar

Head to Belushi’s, the hostel’s bar, for food, drinks, to watch live sports and if you want to show your dance moves. When you’re staying at the hostel you get a discount on food and drinks!
