7 Instagrammable Spots You Can Absolutely Not Miss In Macau

Macau, or ‘Vegas of Asia’, has surprised us in the best sense of the word! We expected to find only bright lights and casinos, but Macau is way more than that; it’s a former Portuguese colony with a rich cultural history. We did our best to find the perfect Instagram spots and want to share these with you! These are the 7 most Instagrammable places in Macau we could find. Some of them were difficult to find, but we did the hard work for you, so grab your camera and book your flights!

Make sure to check out our Instagrammable Spots in Hong Kong too!

  1. Rua de Felicidade a.k.a. the Street of Joy

Or as we call it: The Red Street. Macau’s former Red Light district is now a happy street with buildings painted with many red details.

  1. Ruins of St. Paul

This might be Macau’s most famous landmark. The church burned down during a typhoon, leaving only the beautiful façade.

  1. Rua Sul do Patane

After a lengthy Maps.me search we finally found this apartment complex next to the bus stop Rua Sul do Patane. Some people probably wonder why you’d want a picture of an apartment complex, but look at this! How cool?! The only ‘catch’ is that you have to sneak in the building. Just wait for someone to open the doors and act as a local!

Please be respectful to the people that live there, be quiet and don’t leave rubbish behind!

  1. Taipa village

This is authentic Macau, filled with traditional shop houses, cute streets and street art. We loved the mix between Portuguese and Chinese architecture here. Don’t forget to visit the Our Lady of Carmel Church and to eat some delicious Portuguese egg tart.

  1. Birdcage lookup

We didn’t notice it in the many pictures we saw online, but when you’re standing here it’ll become clear why it’s captioned “birdcage”. All the balconies look like birdcages! Go to 181-191 Avenida de Venceslau Morais and walk into the parking lot to find it.

  1. Cotai strip

Of course, you can’t leave Macau with at least one casino picture. Go to the Venetian and the Parisian and fool everybody you went to Europe!

This wharf is filled with outstanding buildings and design. The wharf is a mix of Chinese and Western cultures, old & modern fashion altogether.

Right?! We didn't either, we kind of got there 'by accident' (a.k.a. cheap flight) and loved it lots!
